THINGBATS
Inspired after the emigre font “Thingbat,”each student is asked to choose a series of objects that identify him or her – that each student identifies with. These objects must be sincerely chosen although they can be whimsical in nature. Explore these things, names and identity designations that form a constellation of meaning surrounding you. The students each distill and develop a “thingbat” which represents them. Construct that symbol use the parts of the word DESIGN set in the typeface Jigsaw. This thingbat is an iconic representation of meaning inspired by one or more objects. The thingbats can be more or less abstract but all must be potent high-contrast forms which can be read at both large and small sizes.
